HCBS Strategies has supported the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) and three Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) on implementing, financing, and evaluating the Providing Alzheimer’s ‘n Dementia Assistance (PANDA) Project.  PANDA offers supportive services for people living with dementia and their caregivers, and training and coordination to improve these individuals’ experience with first responders, medical professionals, and other professionals that they interact with. A major component of this effort is using an evidence-based intervention, TCARE, to support family caregivers.

HCBS Strategies collaborated with ADSS and three of the AAAs, Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A), Central Alabama Aging Consortium (CAAC), and West Alabama Regional Consortium (WARC) to obtain funding for PANDA under the Alzheimer’s Disease Program Initiative (ADPI) from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and acted as the third-party evaluator for four different grants. HCBS Strategies also assisted in identifying how to use Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) to fund these efforts on an ongoing basis and calculated a return on investment (ROI) to help make the case for state funding.
